LATEST NEWS 5th April 2012 - In September of this year the Sporting Aircraft Association of Australia is presenting a major aviation event - AUSFLY at Narromine. This inaugural event will take place over three days from 13th to 16th September and will bring together sport and recreation aviators in all forms of aircraft. As part of this event our plans are to organise a Camping/Caravaning Balloon Trek over the seven days prior to AUSFLY, commencing from Wagga Wagga and finishing at Narromine. Our proposed itinerary for our Balloon Trek is THE ROCK, SW of WAGGA WAGGA, then TEMORA, WEDDIN MOUNTAINS, BOORAWA, CANOWINDRA, MOLONG, NARROMINE as part of the AUSFLY event. This is only a proposed itinerary and some of the intermediate stops may change.   20th May 2012 – Richard Swansborough travelled to Temora for a ballooning weekend and whilst there had the opportunity to be taken on a fixed wing reconnaissance flight over the Weddin Mountains. The Weddin Mountains are on one of the unique locations that we will be flying as part of our Balloon Trek. As part of the preparation for this Trek, Richard and Warren drove their vehicles Northwards along the Western Side of the Weddin Mountains to check access roads and campsites. Tom, the first farmer we met, immediately offered the use of a camping area on his property, which is located at the base of the mountain and only 3.5klms from the legendary Ben Hall’s cave. There is a shed with some bunks, hot water shower and gas barbecues under cover. Tom and his wife, Barbara even offered to mow an area on their farm for the launching our balloons. 25th May 2012 - Richard Swansborough travelled to Narromine for a meeting with the members of the Sporting Aircraft Association of Australia. The SAAA have agreed to include the planned Balloon Trek from Wagga Wagga to Narromine as part of their AUSFLY event in September. Details of the Balloon Trek will be included on their website: http://ausfly.com.au/ 27th May 2012 - Apart from researching each of the destinations for our Balloon Trek, we are presently compiling a road book. This is based on one that Richard was given in 2004, prior to  participating in the balloon transcrossing of Portugal. The road book covers in detail, the itinerary, route maps, Notams, camping grounds, gas refill stations and local activities and other points of interest. For those considering participating in this ballooning adventure, (either for the whole trek or part of), please contact me as early as possible as numbers will be restricted due to the facilities available.
